Cooper

Chapter Twenty One

“For They Perceived That This Work Was Wrought Of Our God” (Nehemiah 6:16)

“I had many things to write”, however, not only time, but also space, fails me. Years have passed since the first edition of the little Gideon booklet made its appearance in 1941 — years of every kind of experience filled with work, trials, and blessing.

Many of our faithful prayer helpers have, since then, gone to be with the Lord. But there have always been prayer groups who have met in various places regularly for these twenty-six years, and there are still with us many who have from the very beginning of this work supported it by their constant prayers, labor, and gifts. How I praise God for the blessing that has come to the Society and its workers through the unremitting prayers, labors, and offerings of our faithful intercessors everywhere.

God has marvelously demonstrated His faithfulness through the years. He gave assurance of His help when He dampened my fleece twice at the beginning in regard to this work, as I have related before in this story. He said, “Prove me now herewith … if I will not open you the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it …” (Mal. 3:10). This promise was given to the people Israel concerning their tithes and offerings, but I believe it is also true of every believer and of every Christian work, for those who “trust Him wholly, find Him wholly true.” He never fails. Again and again He has worked while we slept and met us in the morning with the blessing. He has helped us over the rough and trying places in the way.

“For neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, wherein we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12b)

Millions are going into eternity without God. No one who honestly believes in an eternal hell — that place of everlasting separation from God—should be able to rest from his responsibility to give out God’s Word while myriads for whom Christ died are perishing and going into outer darkness where there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. “Lost! lost! in eternal night!” This is the sad wail of the multitudes of human beings who depart this life without accepting Christ. Will there be some in that number who might have been rescued if you had been faithful? If I had been faithful?

God has greatly blessed the ministry of the Biblical Research Society. He has allowed us to see some of the fruits of our seed-sowing, and we confidently expect to see more and to share in the rewards which will come to the 144,000 servants of God (Revelation, chapter 7). In the Tribulation Period these sealed servants will bring about the greatest revival the world has ever seen, as shown in the latter part of Revelation, chapter 7. Do you, dear friends, want to share in the rewards that will come to those who are instrumental in giving the Word of God to the future 144,000 evangelists of the Tribulation Period? Then “Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields that they are white already unto harvest.” God is calling to you, as well as to me, and is giving you an opportunity to share in these rewards and to lay up untold treasures in heaven.

The Biblical Research Society has endeavored to bend all energy and every effort to get God’s Word out to the lost during these twenty-six years, through every possible means. But we are not satisfied with the past. We want to do our share now in reaching the lost. And that is the greatest reason why we believe that God gave us our beautiful new headquarters where we can really expand our program for both Jew and Gentile.

God has marvelously answered prayer for us. The half has not been told and perhaps can never be told. Each day brings its own problems, its own blessings, and its answers to prayer. I have related in these articles only some of the outstanding answers. But if what I have related brings a blessing and inspires some to a greater faith in the wonderful power of prayer; if it stimulates some to a deeper prayer life and to a greater zeal in working for the salvation of the lost; and if it lays upon some a greater burden of Israel’s need, then this booklet will not have been written in vain.

As I close this incomplete prayer story of what God has wrought in and through the Biblical Research Society and its co-workers, it is my prayer that many of you will search your hearts to find out what God would have you do about the task which our Lord committed to each of His followers when He said, “All authority hath been given unto me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit: 20 teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world” (Matthew 28:18-20).

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek (Gentile)” (Romans 1:16).

“In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thy hand …” (Ecclesiastes 11:6).

Sow in the morn thy seed;
At eve hold not thy hand;
To doubt and fear give thou no heed,
Broadcast it o’er the land.

Thou know’st not which shall thrive,
The late or early sown;
Grace keeps the precious germ alive,
When and wherever strown:

And duly shall appear,
In verdure, beauty, strength,
The tender blade, the stalk, the ear,
And the full corn at length.

Thou canst not toil in vain:
Cold, heat, and moist, and dry,
Shall foster and mature the grain
For garners in the sky.

Then, when the glorious end,
The day of God, shall come,
The angel reapers shall descend,
And heaven shout, ‚Harvest home!‘ ”

— James Montgomery

The harvest cannot be greater than the sowing! “He harvests big who sows big!” “Blessed are ye that sow beside all waters …” (Isaiah 32:20).

by Mrs. David L.
